A lot of writers/creatives (myself included) feel like if an idea’s been done before, it’s somehow “cheating” or “ripping others off” to do something similar. Even if we do go ahead and put our own unique spin on it. This is a good reminder to take the pressure off and just go with it, regardless of whether it’s “original” or not.
I mean, I just watched Hamilton (so good, btw). And I was surprised to learn it was inspired by this book. So to build on existing work can actually result in some pretty amazing creations.
