I use the defusion technique “I notice I’m having the thought/feeling/urge that…” pretty regularly. Also there’s the concept of the “non-judgmental observing mind” vs the “thinking mind” that really helps. Theres A lot of overlap with mindfulness, but the gist is: recognizing we are not our thoughts. Not taking our thoughts (as weird or distressing as they can be) so seriously. Recognizing thoughts as what they are, accepting the feelings we’re feeling, getting grounded in the present, and the taking action in accordance to our values. I’ve still got a long way to go but I’ve found it to be incredibly powerful stuff.
